I was really looking forward to the independence day celebrations as everyone said it is going to big one. I can say I was disappointed. I didn't see the parade as it was already at 7am but none of the local who I talked with knew what time it is going to be, most of the people said around 9am. There wasn't any party going on, so for me it just was a normal day off. We went to the shopping centre that is in the city centre. Then we took the minibus (Note to myself: remember to take a picture of them) to one of the other shopping centres, as there was going to be some celebrations too, but we missed that too. Afternoon I went to the Swedish school to have a swim in the pool and relaxing in the sun.
My life is quite boring in here, not much to do, I miss rugby. I enjoy being in here, I like living the life in Zambia and seeing how the nurses work in here and explore Africa. While I am writing this I am alone in the flat, all my 10 flatmates have gone out for dinner as the Austrians are leaving soon. You might ask why I haven't gone with them, to be honest no-one didn't ask me to join them until 10mins before they left at which point I just had finished eating my dinner. I can think few reasons why they didn't ask me, as I haven't been socializing with them much, we don't have much common and at the evening when most of them are sitting in the balcony, it is around 9-10pm when I like to go bed and read a book (because the noise starts around 5:30am, so I usually wake around that time even though I could sleep until 6:30am on a work morning and I love my sleep). Firstly I am here to do my clinical practice that I have been enjoying to do, secondly I am here to learn about Zambian culture and thirdly to do things that I enjoy and like to do.
Here I like going to the shopping centre, shop and people watch, I like going to the swimming pool, and markets to just have a look around. I like exploring my surroundings and plan my travels, what I like to see and where I want to visit while being in Africa.
On Sunday we had a rain shower, didn't last long though. Here is a couple attempts to take a picture of the rain.
Every place have been decorated like this and with Zambian flags, too.
We saw some men walking on the Independence Avenue, where the parade was, so this point we didn't know that we were late. As the parade was already at 7am!!!
I really like how the Zambians use all the walls to advertise and paint some nice pictures, so this place is quite colourful.
The freedom statue.
Those tall buildings are in the city centre of Lusaka at the Cairo road.
Most of the places were decorated like this.
Zambians love their football, so I decided take picture of the headquarters of the Zambian football.
